About this calculator

The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is India's flagship tax-saving scheme with EEE status — deposits qualify for 80C deduction, interest is tax-free, and maturity is tax-free. Accounts mature after 15 financial years and can be extended in 5-year blocks with or without fresh deposits.

Interest is compounded yearly and credited each March 31, calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and month-end. The rate is revised quarterly by the government and has been 7.1% since April 2020.

Formula

FV = D × (((1+r)^n − 1) ÷ r) × (1+r), where D = yearly deposit, r = annual rate, n = years (deposits at year-start).

How to use the PPF Calculator

  1. Enter your planned yearly deposit (₹500 minimum, ₹1.5 lakh maximum).
  2. Keep the current 7.1% rate unless the government revises it.
  3. Use 15 years for first maturity, or 20/25/30 if you plan extensions.
